Online Dance Recital Video Orders

February 4, 2012 Recital – Rhythm in Motion

    New for 2012

Videos are now available in downloadable High Definition video files.
Downloadable video files are optimized for playback on MAC and PC computers, as well as HDTVs that have a USB or Ethernet connection.

Why the switch to HD video files?
DVD discs are limited to standard definition video and work best on old-school televisions.
These videos are high definition 1920×1080 video, which has an image that is four times larger than DVD video.

The OneDance February 2012 recital online video ordering page is now live and all the videos are available for immediate download in convenient zip files.

Please note that these videos are for educational use only and sharing or public display is prohibited by law.  By purchasing one of these videos you agree to not distribute these videos online and hold harmless Shawn Lam Video Inc. for any legal action arising from prohibited exhibition of the videos.

Video ordering is now open and high definition videos are available for instant download.

Rhythm in Motion - Entire Show

    Hi,

I would like to purchase the OneDance Rhythm in Motion performance, but I have a few questions:

    1. What is the file format (file extension) for the HD Video Files?
    2. Roughly how big the file is for each dance piece (say 4 minutes)? Can I copy it onto a DVD?
    3. I actually prefer to purchase the entire show, but I only want to do that if I can transfer them onto DVDs. So will I be able to do that if I only copy one or two dance piece per DVD? Does the Entire Show download come as individual files?
    4. It would be nice if there is an option for us to purchase the “old style” DVDs if possible.

    Thanks in advance!
    Jo

      Hi Jo – great questions.

1 – The HD video files are H.264 video files with a Mp4 extension. They are wrapped in a Zip folder for ease of download across Windows and Mac on every browser.
2a – The files are between 50-150 MB each, with an average of 100 MB per video.
2b – You can copy the files to any storage device, including a DVD, hard drive, USB thumb drive, or even CF, SD, and all the other flash memory cards. They won’t automatically be Video DVDs that play in a DVD player if you copy the files – this would require DVD authoring and converting the files to a different format and file structure, including lowering the resolution from HD to SD. Is that what you want? Or do you just want to be able to have portable files?
3 – You can purchase the entire show. See above for DVD transfer. The entire show comes as one large zip folder 2.8 GB (which is less than the 4.3 GB limit on a DVD) and contains individual files for each dance. You can then transfer individual files to a DVD.
4 – If you would like an “old style” standard definition DVD that can be arranged as well. I will be authoring a master later this week, although it will no longer feature intricate motion menus as in the past.

Just keep in mind that in a few years you may no longer have a DVD player (do you still have a VCR?) and we are trying to keep on top of technological changes in order to offer the best products to our clients as possible. At some point this will mean phasing-out DVDs completely. Please also note that DVD technology is almost twenty years old (19 this year) and both the DVD video codec (MPEG2) and resolution (Standard Definition 720×480) are rapidly being phased-out. The big reason is that everyone has HDTVs and HD resolution computer monitors now. That is why we have started to offer 1920×1080 HD videos – our clients have asked for a video that looks great on an HDTV and Blu-ray just wasn’t the answer as it doesn’t have as high of an adoption rate as computers and DVD players.

Hope this helps – let me know which option you would like to go with.

    Hi Shawn,

Thanks a lot for your response! It was super clear, and you even answered questions that I haven’t yet asked :)

I am good now. I will just download the show in HD.

    Thanks again! and Best Regards!
    Jo
